The Acting Minister and Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Environment and Urban and Rural Development in Khartoum State, Ms. Ghada Hussein Al-Awad, affirmed that private sector participation in environmental and urban development projects represents a fundamental partnership in supporting recovery and reconstruction efforts. She commended Al Taawuniya Insurance Company's initiative to rehabilitate the eastern garden at the Al-Fitihab Bridge Tunnel Triangle.
She made these remarks today during the launch of the garden rehabilitation project, attended by Mr. Issam Al-Amin, Director-General of the Council's Financial and Administrative Affairs Department; Agricultural Engineer Mohammed Al-Amin, Director-General of the Natural Resources and Sustainable Development Department; and a delegation from Al Taawuniya Insurance Company, led by Mr. Saad Khalil Babiker, the company's Administrative Affairs Director, alongside several department managers.
Ghada Hussein praised Al Taawuniya Insurance Company's initiative and acknowledged its contribution to urban development. She noted that the company was among the first to launch urban development projects in Khartoum State following the war. She emphasized that such initiatives reflect the growing role of the private sector in supporting recovery and reconstruction efforts and restoring the capital's urban landscape.
She stated that the Supreme Council for the Environment welcomes productive partnerships with the private sector and supports initiatives aimed at rehabilitating public gardens, squares, and green spaces, planting trees along streets, and establishing central nurseries to support the restoration of vegetation following the extensive tree cutting caused by the war.
She explained that the current phase requires coordinated efforts among the government, the private sector, international, regional, and national organizations, as well as the community, to rebuild Khartoum, improve the environment, and enhance quality of life.
The Secretary-General further explained that rehabilitating the eastern garden at the Al-Fitihab Bridge Tunnel Triangle represents a practical model of community partnership with Al Taawuniya Insurance Company, which has contributed to restoring green recreational spaces as part of its corporate social responsibility. She affirmed the Council's readiness to provide technical support and the necessary coordination to ensure the project's success and achieve its environmental and urban development objectives.
For his part, Mr. Saad Khalil Babiker, Administrative Affairs Director at Al Taawuniya Insurance Company, stated that the initiative falls within the company's corporate social responsibility framework and reflects its commitment to contributing to recovery and reconstruction efforts.
He noted that the company had already commenced rehabilitation work on the garden, in addition to renovating the administrative office attached to it. He explained that the initiative stems from the company's belief in the importance of participating in community-oriented projects that contribute to environmental improvement and enhance the city's appearance.
The Administrative Affairs Director also commended the Supreme Council for the Environment's efforts in urban development and its commitment to maintaining gardens and green spaces. He stressed that cooperation between government institutions and the private sector represents an important step towards implementing more projects with a direct and positive impact on citizens.
Meanwhile, Agricultural Engineer Mohammed Al-Amin, Director-General of the Natural Resources and Sustainable Development Department, explained that rehabilitating gardens and green spaces is a key component of urban development because of their environmental, aesthetic, and health benefits. He also highlighted their role in providing recreational spaces for residents and improving the urban landscape.
The launch of the rehabilitation works at the eastern garden of the Al-Fitihab Bridge Tunnel Triangle is part of Khartoum State's efforts to restore public areas and green spaces, revive the capital's urban appearance, and strengthen partnerships with the private sector in recovery and reconstruction projects.
The initiative is expected to encourage more national companies and institutions to undertake environmental and urban development projects, transforming corporate social responsibility into practical partnerships that directly contribute to environmental improvement and public service.
